When no tv is watching a source the HDMI port will turn off on that source. When you select that source there will be a 5-15 second time for the HDMI port to re-activate and handshake to display a video signal on your tv screen. The best option to make your HDMI Matrix system have instant switching at all times is to add an extra receiver for each source and keep them in the rack with no HDMI cable plugged into them.
The Receivers have a built in scaler which allows you to broadcast a 1080P signal to any 1080P tvs on the network and then also the scaler will lower the resolution to 720p etc for any tv that is not 1080P capable allowing you to get the highest resolution signal on the tvs that can display it.
The HDMI over IP solution distributes the PCM stereo audio in the HDMI data stream. it does not distribute 5.1,7.1 or lossless audio. You will need to hook up other forms of digital audio to any surround sound receivers to get the signal since the HDMI is not running through the receiver. Otherwise the audio signal will output to the tv. Please make sure any devices you are using don't need to be configured in the settings to output the audio via optical/digital coax instead of HDMI.
